Soldier Update

So I've recently been experimenting with bump mapping to see what it would look like on my characters and I have to say, I like it! I've also finished laying out the UVs for the soldier character, so I'm going to start texturing him.

(NOTE: The colours on these shots appear much brighter and saturated than what the actual colours are. I have no idea why.)

Shock Trooper Model

After much meticulous staring at the computer screen trying to get every little detail just right, I've completed my Trooper. This was perhaps the most difficult character to model out of all five of them simply because of the amount of detail needed to be put into the armor, particularly the helmet as I didn't manage to create image planes to reference to model it; I had to wing it. Overall I'd say it turned out quite well.

Shock Trooper Design: Refined Design

This new design I'm pretty fond of. It takes my previous design and it combines it with features from my more recent designs, especially this one. This new design also attempts to make use of Justin's feedback to smooth out the armor and make it look more convincing, that is to make it look like it better fits around the body. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to create a convincing armor design which implemented canine anatomy assets, though I felt the hind-leg bicep muscle running up into the waist and the large upper body was pulled off well without making it too obvious.

Shock Trooper Design: Armoring

More attempts to integrate canine anatomy into the armor. I focused a lot of the bulky upper half of the armor. I also took Justin's advice to smooth the aesthetics, since previous designs looked too blocky.

Shock Trooper Design: Canine Structuring

So I'm coming back to the design of the soldier now after having modeled the rest of the characters. I'm taking Justin's critique he made a while ago into consideration. He suggested to look into canine anatomy while canines 'stand'; the way that the torso is elongated, the way the waist is slimmed and the upper torso bulges. I attempted to incorporate that theme into some basic designs: under-layers that are worn beneath the armor. This was simply to get some ideas of how the armor might mold around the figure.

Issac Model: Progress Update 3: Shirt

Issac Model: Progress Update 2: Trousers

More progress!

I used the same techniques for Issac's trousers as I did for Fat Cat's. I'm surprised at how similar both Fat Cat and Issac are to model so far.
