Great references of the mannequins Tom. The long and thin limbs with the short torso make the figure look spindly and almost creepy.
Your top sketches look similar to that of the robot in 'iRobot'. Though they don't function the same it is worth a look at, in terms of motion and character design, if you are still looking towards that design.
